What do I do?
After years of teaching I found a wonderful new ministry in the pastoral
scene – ministering in parishes initially and now in my retired
years with the elderly. I find great satisfaction in supporting
in their later years those people who have been so faithful in rearing
their families and building up the work of the Church throughout their
lives.
I visit the nursing centres, the cancer ward at the hospital and the
sick and elderly parishioners. I take communion to nursing centres,
as well as to the elderly and disabled in their homes. I
pray with the sick and support the families where it is possible during
my visits. Since I am constantly present among the sick and
dying I am able to notify the pastors when the sacraments are needed.
Where do I carry out my ministry?
I live in Toowoomba and work at the Base Hospital, Blue Care Village,
Salem Centre, Symes Thorpe Nursing Centre and St Thomas More’s
Parish.
What Franciscan values underpin how I minister?
Keeping in mind our Franciscan motto of ‘Franciscans for Peace’ and
the compassion and deep respect Francis showed in all his dealings with
people, I try to be a gentle, peace-filled and loving presence to all
whom I meet as I minister.
“In
all their works, the love of God and of all people should shine forth.”
