A New Missionary Endeavour in Southern Sudan
On
10 January 2008 Sister Patricia Cordwell left Australia to begin a period
of renewal in Ireland in preparation for a challenging mission in Southern
Sudan.
At an evening farewell on 8 January a number of sisters paid tribute
to Patricia’s dedication as a missionary and to her giftedness
as a nurse. She was also commended for the way in which she is able to
work cross-culturally with students and in consort with nurses, gaining
not only their respect but also their friendship.
In mission situations Patricia has worked as a nurse in Papua New Guinea,
in Bathurst Island (Australia) and in Chad. In more recent years she
developed programmes for training that have been very successful both
in Chad and in Papua New Guinea.
In 2006 a number of religious orders undertook the financing and staffing
of a major project in Education and Nursing in Southern Sudan. Volunteers
were called for and Patricia is among those who responded. As she undertakes
her spiritual renewal in preparation for this new ministry, we accompany
her in prayer.
