OUR MISSION

Mission Outreach

Delamore Retirement Community

In 1935 the Sisters purchased Delamore property to establish their first convent and novitiate in Australia.  By the 1980’s it was too large for our own needs. Research was undertaken find new ways to utilise the beautiful Delamore House and property. Accommodation and care for retired people was identified as a priority need in the Church community. Delamore Retirement Community was opened in 1990.

The Delamore Retirement Community provides well-designed accommodation for elderly and retired persons, and provides a team of management and staff who work together to offer care in line with the Franciscan ethos. Delamore also fosters the development of a supportive community where residents can interact with one another while safeguarding each one’s right to privacy.

Mount Alvernia College, Kedron

In 1956 we extended our mission in education with the opening of our secondary college, Mountt Alvernia. With only ten students enrolled the first classroom was a room in the convent, an historical house originally called ‘Delamore’. Today the College has over 800 students and is committed to the total development of the students in the light of the Gospel and the tradition of St Francis and St Clare aiming to develop the virtues of love, compassion, simplicity and joy.

To ensure effective governance into the future, in 2017 we transferred sponsorship of Mount Alvernia College to the PJP Mercy Partners.  Mercy Partners was established by the Sisters of Mercy in Queensland, The Presentation Sisters and Missionary Franciscan Sisters are now partners in this governance entity.

Franciscans International

Franciscans International is a Non Government Organisation with General Consultative Status established to work at the United Nations to address human rights injustices that impact on the poor and most vulnerable. FI is a shared ministry of the global Franciscan Family. It is inspired by Franciscan values which envision a global community in which the dignity of every person is respected, the resources are shared equitably, the environment is sustained, and nations and peoples live in peace.

The Missionary Franciscans Sisters have supported Franciscans International since its inception. Australian Sisters were part of a joint ecumenical Franciscan initiative to establish an office in Bangkok to help address human rights violations in the Asia Pacific region. Our Sisters support Franciscans International financially, and Sisters have worked in both the New York and Bangkok offices.
